I have problems with pop-ups, ads hijacking and opening a
browser without my action, changing my web browser
settings etc. Things like Game Bar IE Fast Memory etc.
are in the add/remove programs list. I have installed ad-
aware, spy-bot and ad-destroyer and while these did help
some, I still have many ads that pop-up and take over.
To my knowlege I haven't done anyting to explicitly
download these. How did I get these and how do I totally
get rid of them?

If you feel like Adware is coming out of your ears, you'll have to
retreat to Safe Mode. During boot, hold down F8 to get to the Windows 98
Startup Menu. Choose Safe Mode and run each adware scanner here after
using the standard Add/Remove Programs dialog. Make notes on the
directories and names you see detected. Restart back to Safe Mode after
you're done cleaning out what they found. Use Spybot > Tools > Startup
to uncheck any startup items that you don't recognize or are similar to
your list. Use Google to find out more about programs you don't
recognize. After this, go to My Computer > C: > Program Files and clear
out there using Google and what you know are proper installed programs.
Leave anything you can't identify with Google; some legitimate programs
leave cryptic folders. Restart normally, then download a registry
cleaner like RegSeeker from http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm . Use
it to clean the registry of any hanging references to deleted files. Do
not delete references whose reasons for selection are "Extension not in
us" or "Unused 'Open With' extension" unless you know what you're doing.
