Win 98 Losing connection to Win 2003 Server

My setup is this. I have 2 IP address, one goes to a
server (Windows Server 2003), and the other goes to a
router. The rest of the machines are behind a router. The
computers behind the router have mapped drives (by IP
address) to the server. The problem that I am having is
that my Windows 98 computers lose there connection to the
server withing the hour all the time and they have to get
rebooted to connect again. My machines on XP connect
fine.

The reason why the server is not behind the router is
because the router would time out one in a while and
people could not access the site hosted on the server.

Is there any ideas how I can get the Windows 98 machines
to stop losing there connection to the server. There are
no time limits or restriction setup on the user accounts.

Thanks

I am not an expert at this, but I been watching all
threads, in different newsgroup, related to win98 clients
problem with win2003 server.
No one has asnwered questions related to such problem on
any news group. (Don't know why!)
But with my own experience I learnt a few things,
1. upgrading from win98 to win98 SE helps in someways.
2. Some programs, try to logon by themselves, using saved
password credentials, and this authenciation often fails,
with win 2003 server (where as with win NT it never
falied, cuase, when my server was win NT untill a month
ago, it never disconnected any clients.)
3. With the lockout threshold set in the policies, win
2003 server locks out the account.
4. ALtools (account lockout tools) are available on MS
support site, to find out which programs try to logon,
but I found this tool did not work on win 98 clients.
5. From win 98 clients, deleting un-used, and no loger
valid password files (*.pwl), and removing their
reference from sys.ini file, helped me little, the
frequency of lock out reduce, instead lock out every hour
or so, the win 98 clients now get locked out only once or
twice day. (what an acheivement!! :-( )
6. Just yesterday, I downloaded all available applicable
updates from MS site and loaded on all the win 98
clients. But today, out of 6, 2 clients still get lcoked
out.

Well, since I am not an expert I might be fully correct,
but when no any professionals helping in problems related
to win 98 and win 2003, why not share my experience, may
be, someone will think over what I told, study , think
further and find a solution and will post it here.

I have the latest patches and SE of Win 98, plus there
are no lockouts on the accounts. I have tried the other
hings as well, but still no luck.

Do I need to setup a DSN for the server. Currently, I do
not have one, and since the server is outside the router,
all mapping are done by IP address.

All I want to do is beable to share the db propelry so I
can get this project done

Thanks

The message you mentioned, will also be because of account lockout.
For win95 it is necessary, that in the Default Domain Policy,
you set the policy "Network Clients: Digitally Sign Communication Always" to
disabled.
Did you try increasing the account lockout threshold to higher value
something like 15 or more?
