I just got a request from my client that he wants 3 win 98 boxes to access
2k3 domain. The rest of the boxes are win xp pro.

The win98 boxes are too old to upgrade to xp. I have downloaded and
installed the DS client but still get the message: "no domain server was
available to validate your password" What if anything do I need to enable on
the server and install on the 98 boxes to get them to access the domain.

Thanks,

Frank

Couldnt you upgrade them to 2000 insted? 2000 runs rather well on a
135MHz PC with 64MB of ram.

The client does not want to spend the bucks upgrading. So I am stuck with 98
until he springs for new PC's this fall.

Check out: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;249841

You will need to load the DS Client software on your Win 98 machines and be
sure NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled.

I have a similar problem with a few of my 98 systems as well. I have
installed the dsclient and also added a key to the registry
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Lsa]
"LMCompatibility"=dword:00000003
Still have the problem. sometimes I connect, sometimes I do not.
Upgrading is planned next year for these systems.
OBTW - The problem started occuring after I added another W2K3 DC to my
domain.
Any additional solutions would be helpful
