Hi - I bought a Lynksys WAP + Laptop PCMIA card. The idea being to link my
laptop (thro my Linksys router) to my 2 desktop PC's

Both desktops are running XP (1 home + 1 pro) though the laptop runs win98.

On 1 desktop (XP Home) I can see everything. On the win98 laptop I can
access internet but not see the c:\ on either desktop.

I have a Norton Personal firewall on the desktop which are configured to
work with 192.168.1.100-105. This includes all poss internal IP addresses.

The thing that concerns me is that I had the laptop & desktops working fine
with a d-link card & cables.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Many thanks

Andrew

If you remove the PCMCIA card and connect your laptop to the router, can it
see the desktop then? I'm betting no. I can't think of any reason your
wireless connection would stop that. It should behave just like a wired
connection in that respect, except for speed.

Have you checked your sharing settings on your XP machine? I had the same
problem with mine and learned that it (XP) doesn't "share" drives like 98.
Had to go into each folder I wanted to share and mark it as such.

The solution - You know that anoying network logon box that comes up with
win98 that's diff to get rid of and which you usually just cancel... well I
logged on with my XP username and pwd.... all seems to be ok!

Tried all the other things and didn't alter anything, but thanks for the
suggestions. Seeing ANY reply to a posting always brings at least
psychological help!

HTH someone.
