I've banged my head against this for hours and still can't
find a solution. Here's the senario:
Freshly reloaded win 98 box - running TCP/IP and Netbeui
all critical updates applied
Existing Windows NT server running TCP/IP, Netbeui, DHCP
and WINS
Windows 98 box can authenticate to the server first time
through, but upon shutdown/reboot it receives an error
upon login stating "The domain password you supplied is
not correct, or access to your logon server has been
denied."
If I switch the primary network logon under network
neighborhood from Client for Microsoft networks to Windows
Logon and reboot, I'm able to access the first time
through. But the problem repeats itself if the user has to
shut down/reboot and the network logon then must be
switched again back to Client for Microsoft Networks.
Regardless of status I can ping the IP and Name of the
server from the workstation and vice versa.
Here's what I've done to try to resolve the issue:
Replace NIC and verified upto date driver
Blow out the network stack and reload
Run WinSock repair
Changed user password
Tried alternate network login (admin)
Switched hub ports which the client hooks into
Assigned a static IP to the client
Cleared out the WINS cache on the server
Run web searches of this error and applied the suggested
fixes.
The other 2 98 clients on the network have been having no
issues.
