Hey Folks,

I replaced my network card with a Netgear FA-310TX card.
I did the DIAG.EXE program in DOS, and it showed it OK.

I am now getting an error pop-up:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
IP Configuration
(X) Error
DHCP Server Unavailable Renewing adapter ""
[ OK ]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

When I mouse to: Start -> Run -> Winipcfg -> More info

It lists the DHCP server as 255.255.255.255, when it
really is 192.168.2.1.

According to some places on the 'Net I need to release
the DHCP lease as described in:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q217035/

I installed the following file in the Registry:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\VxD\DHCP]
"ReleaseLeaseOnShutdown"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Shutdown]
"FastReboot"="0"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Still not communicating with the DHCP server (router) and
getting a local IP address, etc. so that the box can't get
out to the 'Net.

Please help me! I've been banging my head against this
problem for many, many hours!

Thank you if you can help me out of this miserable problem!

Prior to replacing the NIC, did the DHCP assignment work properly?

I've got the same NIC in my '98 box, and it get's an IP assigned no problem
from my server, however, no matter what I do, I can't even get a ping
response to/from the '98 box from/to any of the '2K boxes I've got on the
network... this is driving me nutz...

Have you done the "release/renew" using the winipcfg utility? If so, di you
do it with the correct adapter selected? When you open the utility, there's
a pull-down at the top. The first adapter listed for me is my dial-up
adapter, so to see the netgear NIC, I must be sure to select it first.
