I set up a network with new PC (Win XP) connceted to
wireless router. Old PC with Win 98 has WIreless nic
card. Internet is availaable on both PCs with no
problem. I'm unable to see the shared files on old Win98
PC. Designated "shared" status to certain files & blue
Hand appears on that file/folder. However, I cannot see
these files on the New Win XP PC. Stuck in cyber-hell.

Please assist. Thanks

you IP addresses up as safe areas to correct. I wish I
could see my shared resources on the XP. I can't even get
my 98 to access the wireless network. I have gotten my XP
to access and can share the resources of the 98. Whas up?

1. Permanently disable XP's built-in Internet Connection Firewall on
local area network connections -- it's for use only on a direct modem
connection to the Internet. Disable and un-install all other
firewalls while troubleshooting. Details here:

Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/...c_firewall.htm

2. Use only one protocol for File and Printer Sharing. If the network
needs more than one protocol, unbind File and Printer Sharing from all
but one of them. Details here:

Windows XP Network Protocols
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/..._protocols.htm

3. Make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers.
Details here:

Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (NetBT)

make sure your TCP/IP bindings on the win98 machine include file/printer
sharing...

if you were using dial up on the 98 box at anytime ...this is probably
disabled.
