I'm got a problem with network printing that I am sure someone will solve
and I'll think "fancy not seeing that" but here goes:

Small home network, mainly Win98 but a laptop with XPHome, new Samsung Laser
printer connected via a JetDirect print server.

Works fine from XP but the Win98 machine won't have it, the network path
isn't found.

I can ping the print server, telnet into it, anything but get the Win98 to
see it as a printer.

I've tried the ip address, \\ip address etc . no joy.

Ideas, please?

Brian

My Jetdirect (which is a few years old) is not a NetBIOS print server. It
is possible that newer ones may have the option. Win98 cannot print to
anything else. XP can.

Check the settings on the server and if it offers NetBIOS make sure it is
enanbled.

I believe there is an add-on LPD print client you can bolt into Win98.

Regards, Ian
