If you are responsable of a 'server health', meaning by so the hardware and
the windows health, i agree with you that automatic updates are the best
choiche. Vendors often agree with this 'policy'.
If you are responsible for the IT as a whole, than the problem is different.
I have a Citrix Presentation server that is not compatible with some new
features that can be veichled trought automatic updates. What should I do?
There is then another problem. A server which is NOT exposed to internet/web
as run unpatched an without problems for years. This server should be
auto-updated? I think no.
If a principle says 'for security, always update' another principle says
'don't touch your running system'.
The risk is the 'discriminant': if the risk became higher, the solution is
the first. If the risk is low, the solution in my opinion is the second one.
