I have set up win 2003 server standard edition (new
installation) with DC. Tried both function levels Pre-2000
and 2000 Native. We have a few XP clients and most Win98
SE clients. All can log on to the server, access shares,
internet. However after sometime Win 2003 server,
randomly disconnects Win98 client, at different times.
For the user who got disconnected the event log shows two
failure audits 1. " Logon attempt by:
Microsoft_Authenciation_Packge_V1.0" Here it shows the
client machine correct. 2. Next failure audit shows,
access denied, reason: account locked out.
The account indeed gets locked, despite I had disabled
Lock Out policy.
This keeps happening randomly for all win 98 SE users,
after about 2 Hrs of log on. Even after account is locked
out and the user is disconnected he/she can still use
internet which is available from the same server through
Routing & PVN.
Just a week ago when we had NT 4.0 server there was no
such problem.

Can anyone help?

I have a problem and I hope You can help me.
We have an issue that i similar :S

I've installed 2 Windows Server 2003 at a customer site 2
weeks ago and they are complaning about latency on the
network.

When they try to save a file from a program and they
select "Save as..", the file selection box appears but the
directory listing doesn't appear

until 10-20 seconds later. It seems like a connectivity
problem on the network.

I know that Windows disconnects network drives after a
while, so I tried to extend the disconnection timeout to
600 minutes, but it doesn't help.

Does it have anything to do with digitally signing of the
data packets?

Do you have a clue for this one?

I don't have a clue for this, but I think this has
nothing do with digitally signing coummunication issue,
becuase, in that case, the connection will be rejected,
and not appear after few seconds delay.
Also on what client OS this problem occurs? win98 or
winXP or all?
