WiFiPhilly: Unable To Connect?

Was wandering around Center City the other day and my Palm TX picked up an
access point named WiFiPhilly.

Sounds like it might be part of the city's effort to scatter wireless access
points throughout the city.

True?

If so, any idea why I was unable to connect. The TX's connection utility shows
a little padlock icon for WEP and WPA points - but WiFiPhilly had no such icon.

Read a few of the articles. Not much about PDAs, but I get the impression that
some sort of logon screen pops on a PC.

Did you miss the blog entry that began, "As of last week, I am unable to
access the internet via wifiphilly. Some strange things have been going
on as of lately" ?

That entry was dated May 8; I don't know when "the other day" was for you.

I agree that there isn't much about PDAs, but if you can connect to
regular hotspots with your PDA, you ought to be able to connect to these
as well. See http://www.phila.gov/wireless/
Different areas have different info sites; see http://tinyurl.com/nxdxm

The one for Love Park specifically says that wireless PDAs can connect
