WiFi question

Can anyone help with some simple advice please?
I regularly use my laptop in a hotel with a wifi connection but the signal
can only be picked up in a small area on the ground floor. I would like to
use the laptop in my room which is usually several floors above and
horizontal to the reception point to save having to go down to the ground
floor just to send or receive an e-mail. Is there anything I can add to my
laptop to pick up the signal from this distance?
