Everywhere I look you can get wireless DSL modems, which is great, but for
areas where you can't get broadband, they're not much use ;-)

I've been looking high and low on my favourite suppliers' sites, and can't
seem to find anything that's similar for regular dialup. Currently I have an
old laptop which is on 24/7, and we simply SSH into it and connect.. then
everyone can access the net thanks to IP masquerading. We are considering
going wireless, and it seems like a waste of a machine.

Does this sort of thing even exist? I can't seem to find one, yet I recall
hearing of something similar a year or so ago in the US. Obviously the whole
point is for it to be standalone, like a wireless DSL modem, so that no PC
has to be on 24/7 to deal with it :-)

Pete

Hi Pete

Check if your wireless AP has a serial port & the ability to use a modem to
directly dial out, my 3COM Airconnect AP does, It is the older version,
802.11b only but have a spare if needed.

Search http://www.shop.bt.com/ using the word "wireless" - I think you may
find something suitable..

Maybe http://www.shop.bt.com/invt/871819 ?
