If the laptop is regular production device and only 3 years old any of the
Brands 802.11g cards that are sold for Laptop would work (no adaptor needed)
Look for cards from Linksys, D-Link, Netgear, Buffalo.
Some cards are on sale and can be found for very little money.
As an example this week CompUSA few cards starting at $9 after rebate.
