WIFI - Antenna or access point?

Hi all,
I hopefully will be getting a Centrino based laptop soon, so will have
access to a wireless network setup.

I currently have the following:
NTL Broadband (600K) --> Linksys BEFSR341 4 port router/switch --> 3 pc's
via network cables.

This leaves me a space port on my router. What do I need to buy to plug into
the network port on my router, to distribute WIFI around my house? Am i
after a 'Indoor/Outdoor antenna' or a 'Wireless access point/kit'? Any
recommendations would be great

Matt
(P.S. I think I would be aiming for a 'g' standard connection (54MPs?))

a wireless access point. Linksys make them. They have antenna
attached.

To extend your existing setup you'd need a wireless access point
not an antenna. However, you may find it a better deal to just
replace your existing router. For example:

You'd reduce network component clutter and you could make an
overall saving by flogging your existing router on eBay.

You should also consider just a Wireless Access Point as you may not be able
to place your router in the best 'sweet spot' for radio reception. I have a
router and access point, the router is downstairs by the wired connections
and incoming phone line, while the access point is upstairs and will soon be
in the attic for best reception. Placing the access point alongside the
router I found reception extremely poor due to the location of brick walls.

AFAIK centrino notebooks are only 11b equipped, 11b (11Mbps) are lower
cost, and for solely internet sharing, perfectly adequate. Will be VERY
slow if you are used to sharing files over a 100Mbps wired connection.

Don't get too optimistic...

It don't do what it claims on the box, claimed speeds are absolute optimums
in ideal conditions and I doubt ideal conditions are obtainable.

Normal household things like fridges, water pipes, wall insulation all
affect the signal but this is not mentioned on the box.

It is good but not as good as at first seems.

You forgot to mention fresh air, 54Mbps is a bit optimistic in the
same room, or even on the same desk!
