wifi access in SF bay area

I make frequent trips to US SF Bay area. I stay for about one week each
time. Can someone recommend a good wifi hotspot wirless service that one
can enroll on a "pay as you go" so I'm not stuck to any long term contract
since I don't live in US? I use win xp and have wireless LAN on my notebook
pc.

What part of the SF Bay area? San Franciso (city) is one of the best
connected cities. You should have no problems finding a free open
access hot-spot in SF.

Starbucks coffee, Borders books stores, and others.

I think there's supposed to be free wireless along parts of University Ave.
in downtown Palo Alto (supposedly, the $5/month service in that area through
AnchorFree is now free).

Where do you stay? Lots of hotels, and even cheap motels, offer free
wireless access. In the city of San Francisco, there are a lot of public
free hotspots.

T-Mobile is $9.99 for 24 hours, and is in a lot of commercial locations.
Starbucks coffee (lots of them), FedEx Kinkos, and Borders Books.

I am finding that more hotels have wired access and more are adding
Wireless. They are unfortunately not Super 8 and Red Roof Inn, but the
more expensive places. The first one I visited with wired and wireless,
I found that they had not completed wiring the hotel and the wireless
was only available in the lobby. It was slow on top of it.

Red Roof Inn is starting to offer T-Mobile. It might be free, it might be
$9.95 per day, but that might still come out cheaper than a different hotel
with "free" WiFi padded in the price.

Best Western has a lot of free WiFi, as does Comfort Inn. At the other
end, Embassy Suites charges $9.99 per day. A lot of Marriott, including
the Courtyard variety, have free WiFi.

You can start with http://www.stayonline.net "clients" which all seem to be
free.

Or if you have a discount hotel search site in mind, you can sometimes
enhance that site's own search engine with a little Google work.
www.hotel-rates.com lets me search for "san francisco", but not "wireless",
so I go to Google.com and do a search for
site:www.hotel-rates.com internet wireless "san francisco"
which gives me a better return on that same site.
