We have a VERY odd problem going on in our network.
we have 3 servers, 2 domains:
SRV1 :
domainA
DC
WINS server
DNS server
DHCP server
SRV2
DC
domainB.domainA
DNS server
SRV3
DomainA
DC
DNS
The problem:
If i use netview from SRV2 to SRV3 using name, everythings fine. If i use
net view \\<ipadressSRV3> i get system error 5 acces denied.
if i do the same from SRV1 there are no problems.
Also:
SOME clients (xp and win2k)have problems connecting to SRV3 by name:
Nevt view from CLIENT1:
net view \\SRV3
system error 53
net view \\<IPAddressSRV3>
no problems.
It appears the clients that use our terminal server (SRV2) get this problem.
we use roaming profiles wich are stored on SRV3.
I have tried quite a lot. DNS does not report any problems. Also i have
checked the settins on the network controllers and they seem to be
functioning fine. all servers have 2 NIC's, SRV1 has 1 disabled and SRV3 has
one disabled. SRV2 uses both (with only one registering its adress in DNS) 1
locally and one in the same subnet as the other for terminal server clients
to connect to.
also dcdiag, netdiag and nltest seem to report no problems.
also when i ping -a <IPaddressSRV3> form SRV2 i get the correct name.
when i ping the name i get the correct ip address. The same goes for the
clients.
i also tried adding the SRV 3 to the hosts file. No problems.
Thank you in advance,
F.Vader
