I am currently looking at a problem that has me a little stumped.

We have a D-Link DSL300G+ with latest firmware connected to BTOpenworld
using a dynamic IP with PPPOA/VPI 38/0 encapsulation.
There is a Netgear FVS318 behind the DSL300. The installation has been in 3
months and for most of that time is reliable. On two occassions the site
lost internet connectivity but this seemed to resolve itself after several
hours. The site went down again on Sunday and has remained down for the
last 3 days. I finally got over to the office yesterday and did some
investigation.

If I reboot everything the DSL300 connects and obtains an IP. Traffic flows
for about 1 minute and then stops dead, but the connection is still up and
the Modem still has an IP.
If I connect a single PC to the DSL300 exactly the same fault happens.
If I connect a single PC with USB modem, the PC stays online and eveything
works.
If I change the DLink encapsulation to PPPOE I get connected and it appears
to stay up!

I removed the DSL300 from site set it back to PPPOA and put it on a Plusnet
ADSL line overnight and it worked fine.

My gut feeling is that BT are periodically messing with their end. Trying
to find someone in BT who undertsands what I am talking about and that there
may actually be a fault at their end appears to be impossible.

Does anyone have any experience of something similar or a suggestion as to
how we can make this link reliable.

Regards

MattS
