Widows 2003 and DSL

I am connecting several remote locations to a central 2003 domain over a
VPN\DSL connection. When attempting promote the remote server to domain
controller I receive a RPC timeout. If the server is moved to the local
LAN, the promotion is successful. The connection speed is 400 kbps+.
KB830746 provides the exact symptom but the fix does not resolve the issue.

mk1999,

What are you using for your VPN connection? What is the Path Maximum Transmission Unit (PMTU). Sometimes over VPN connection we can get
Kerberos fragmentations that we just do not see on LAN links that can also cause this behavior.

244474 How to Force Kerberos to Use TCP Instead of UDP
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=244474

Really there is not enough information to be able to accurately troubleshoot this issue. Are there any events thrown in the Event Viewer Logs? Also how do
other RCP applications work? That is to say from the machine that you want to DCPROMO, can you open Computer Manager and choose to manage
another machine in the central office across the VPN Connection?

We would probably need a more accurate description of the actual event to do a better job of narrowing this kind of issue down in the forum.
