Hi everyone,
i have a problem with my USRobotics wireless USB dongle connected
through a USR router to an NTL cable modem. It works fine most of the
time but occasionally i lose the ability to connect to the network and
internet. The USR icon stills shows the a wireless signal and appears to
be connected but I cannot access anything at all - no email, file
sharing, network browsing, internet, nothing. The only way to get it
back is to turn the USR radio signal off and then on again in the USR
software. someone said it might be due to emule overloading the router
but i've been not using emule for some time now and it still happens.
another user on the netowork runs emule without any problems although he
is connected straight into the router with a cable and i've adjusted the
settings in his emule i.e. lowered the connection limit etc.
although the problem can happen seemingly randomly, i can sometimes
leave the PC for ages i.e. overnight and it is still working in the
morning but sometimes it happens whilst i'm using it. Often, it seems to
occur when I've returned to the PC after it has been on for a while. As
soon as I start using the internet, the problem occurs. This made me
think it might be a power issue or something to do with the USB port
going to sleep or something but i've turned off all the power save
features in device manager to no avail. i also have some problems with
my iPod connected through the other USB2 port on the motherboard so is
this possible? i don't see how this would be solved by turning the radio
signal off and on though? any ideas anyone? i'm starting to think its
a faulty unit...
