Have a MN500 Microsoft wireless network system. Router is
on 2nd floor. 2 computers next lower floor. 1 computer
has good signal, other computer, approximately 45 feet
from base station and router, has weak signal. No
interferences, except wood building material.

Is there a range extender that works with the MN500 router?

Use a Twisted pair ethernet cable to connect another MN-500 or MN-700
that is in bridging mode.

Do you have lap & Plaster walls per chance?

An extension antenna might do. You need an antenna that
fits on top of the router antenna (ie. without wiring
into the router, since the MN500 does not have a jack for
plugging an external antenna).

You may be able to wire an antenna into the router by
opening it, but I have not tried that, will void the
warranty, and may be complicated.

Another alternative is to add a wave guide between the
two floors, but again it depends on the house and
location of the computers.

Wall board with wood interiors. What type of interference
would this cause?

The lap & plaster has chicken wire which absorbs the radio signal.
other dense objects like metal, stone, Etc. can also cause the signal to
travel a shorter distance.

You can add another MN500 and configure it in bridging
mode which acts as a range extender. You need to connect
it to the existing routing mode MN500 by ethernet cable
that you run from the out port #1 to the modem in port on
the new MN500. One caution, when you setup the new MN500,
you should disconnect the existing base station and
replace it with the new one until after you have the new
one configured in bridging mode. After that is complete,
you can put the original back in place and add the newly
configured bridging mode station to the system.
