hey everyone

i've got a problem that i've spent the last 3 months trying to solve,
and it's gotten pretty hopeless...
i'm running gentoo on a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo M7400 Centrino laptop,
using kernel 2.6.7 (gentoo-dev-sources)... i dont currently have an
internet connection on gentoo cause i use wireless and can't get my
interface to work... i downloaded driver 0.55 and firmware 1.3 from
ipw2100.sourceforge.net (i also tried v0.53 with fw 1.2)...... since i
cant use portage, i complied, then:
# cp ./ipw2100-fw-1.3 /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware
# modprobe ipw2100
# lsmod
here the ipw2100 module was listed, along with ieee80211 (or something
like that) along with another 80211 module... hostap wasnt there, but i
cant get it to compile... i might have got it from a bad link (if you
can supply me with another link that i can use)...
anyway, dmesg says that the device could not be powered up and said
something about not finding a certain file (cant check right now cause
i'm using XP).......

please, ANY help would be appreciated, cause i'm stuck at a dead end...
i tried getting both slackware 9 and 10 to work, as well as Fedora 2...
hopeless... i really don't know what's wrong, and i've googled
everything, read loads of posts, and basically tried everything i
can... even tried extracting the files through winzip just in case i
was doing something wrong on the command line...
HELP!!!
thanks in advance

It would be nice to know why...

Which help? first fix your problem, if the driver complain for missing
files or your compilation fails, first fix that.

You are sure that you have a 2100 and not a 2300 on your centrino? (Is it b
or g standard?)

You need to provide better error messages. It is very hard to help you with
this information.

hey........ this is gonna sound really stupid, cause i feel like such a
moron for not noticing this before, but i fixed it..... see when i
gunziped the package, i got only one file..... and there's no
indication that it's a tar file... but untarred it on a hunch (more
like as a last resort) and i got the three files that i was supposed to
get..... so thanks a lot for the help....
and Davide, you might not find it tough to do this stuff, but for a
beginner who's going trying to do things the hard way, i should get
some credit..... so i dont wanna be rude, but if you dont have
something constructive to say, then just dont say anything... or didnt
your parents teach you that?

Sorry if i disturbed u cause maybe I didn't explain very well, as I said
English is not my language and the only intention of my post was say that
there is other driver for make this card works: u r trying to configure
ipw2100 driver and i'm using the ndiswrapper.

The readme that I said was for ndiswrapper. i had several problems
installing ipw2100: like a module, in to the kernel, installing firmware...
and I really think that is much easier configure and use ndiswrapper, but
ipw2100 is better, with more options. (I haven't use it)

The second part of my post was, if u speak Spanish, send a minihowto that I
wrote for configurre ndiswrapper.

Now, after read this i hope u understand why I'm a quite surprised with ur
reply. If i disturbed u (wasn't my intention) I say sorry :-)

You aren 't rude, I think that the problem was for the language, maybe i
didn't write that i mean. My parents make me a gentle, so when I think that
i'm in a mistake i say sorry and try to help.

Sorry for my english, it's really difficult for e write in english.
