Why is it that I perceive that NewsGroup data transfer to my wireless laptop
is slower than it (still) is to my desktop?

Router is a LinkSys 'G' level.
Laptop is a Dell Inspiron 9300.
PC is an older, AMD 1 Ghz machine.
ISP connection is via DSL

Could be a lot of reasons:

* Less memory on the laptop?
* Poor connection to the wireless?
* Laptop utilization is high?
* Laptop has less cache/slower processor?
* Slower disk subsystem on the laptop? Too much disk fragmentation?
* ...or could just be a perception thing. Have you measured it at all?

Ben:

Good list.

Laptop has 1 Gig RAM
Poor (wireless) Connection? Linksys notes "Excellent"
Laptop Utilization? Don't immediately know how to measure this. Will look
at Norton stuff to see how 'they' see the processor.
Processor is a 2GHz Centrion (Spelling?)
Slow disk subsystem? Good point! Here, too, don't know how to measure.
Fragmentation? Will look at. . .
Perception? Maybe that is really it.

Aloha (fm Sarasota, FL) to You Too!
