Hi, Bard Bowman

I read many of your articles about Wireless Network Setup Wizard. It is so
helpful for me.
Yesterday I play with a Linksys WRT54GX2 router in my living room and try to
using the USB flash drive and the “Wireless Network Setup Wizard” program to
setup a wireless network in my XP (SP2) for play game.

And then I select AES indeed on the Linksys configuage webpage and the
question is when I check the WSETTING.txt in my USB flash drive, I found the
Network Authntication type is still displays "TKIP" even if I select AES in
Linksys config webpage. Look at the following copy of WSETTING.txt I pasted

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Wireless Network Settings

Print this document and store it in a safe place for future reference. You
may need these settings to add additional computers and devices to your
network.

Wireless Settings

Network Name (SSID): NSV-Wireless
Network Key (WEP/WPA Key): 0123456789
Key Provided Automatically (802.1x): 0
Network Authentication Type: WPAPSK
Data Encryption Type: TKIP
Connection Type: ESS
Key Index:

To enable File and Printer Sharing on this computer, run the Network Setup
Wizard.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, I try a D-link DI-634M router with WPA2 mode and the result is the
same. But the WSETTING.txt is OK if I set anther authentication type, WEP,
TKIP etc.

So I think the question actual is why “TKIP” displays in the WSETTING.txt
when I select AES as the authentication type?
And how to setup a wireless network with AES authentication successfully via
the USB flash drive and the “Wireless Network Setup Wizard” program?
Does this issue caused by the wrong Router model I used? I think I can get
some info from you; this issue puzzles me for a so long time. Thanks a lot

It sounds like after you use the computer to setup the wireless
network, you are plugging it into the router, changing a setting on
the router, and expecting that to change the settings on the USB key?
Or that is how I am interpreting your remarks about using the Linksys
config web page. The settings are determined by the computer. You plug
USB key into the router or device and it configures the device
according to the settings on the USB key.

If this is not what you are doing, please post the steps.

Thank you for answer my question so quickly. I post my steps here.

1.firstly, I setup a Linsys router with AES security type. I want to make up
a wireless Lan in my living room.(let’s suppose the SSID is A)
2.then I have a printer which is support wireless. I want to add this
printer to the wireless Lan too. so I must create a USB key so I can plug
into printer.
3.(I start to create the USB key using the Wireless Network Setup Wizard
program and one USB flash derives.)
4.All the steps in the Wireless Network Setup Wizard is OK till I chick the
“Finish’ button in the The wizard completed successfully page.
5.Now I think I must check if the USB key is configured with AES encryption
algorithm. That is why I open the WSETTING.txt.
6.I was the “Data Encryption Type: TKIP” in the WSETTING.txt. that is what I
found. But I think it should be AES or other since I setup the wirleless as
AES security type in the step 1.

That is all, I have updated to SP2 in my XP. I have no idea why it behaves
like this.please let me know if you have any suggestion. thanks again.

The wireless setup wizard will only setup a TKIP connection. There is
no choice to select AES. AES was optional for the original version of
WPA.

So does it mean that I can NOT create the USB key with AES authentication
anytime from XP OS in this case? thank you for your patience.
