Sounds a bit like the problem I had when trying to connect with a 54g PCMCIA
card to the WAP while using DHCP. The laptop was getting its IP address
before connecting to the wireless network and so not getting it from the
DHCP server. I was getting a 169.xxx address instead of a 192.168.x.x one
and, of course, it couldn't see the network. I went back to static IP
addresses.
