Why is MN-520 slow?

My wife and I each have Toshiba laptops with XP. Mine has
a built in Toshiba wireless system, and hers has a
Microsoft MN-520 adapter card. Otherwise the computers are
nearly identical. We share a wireless network with a
neighbor. When our computers are sitting side by side, my
network connection signal strength shows "Good" and hers
shows "Low". My web connections are noticeably faster than
hers.

Any ideas on why this difference exists?

Thanks.

Just for grins, have you tried different orientations? Also could try Net
Stumbler to get an idea of the signal strength each Laptop sees.

Verify that the 520 is set to the right channel. It may
be getting just a peripheral signal.
