Why do weblinks attempt to connect via dial-up if already connecte

Connection is made via BT Wireless Hub and an internet connection is made.
However, if a link is activated, Windows or the browser (Firefox) attempt to
dial out via the old BT Broadband connection. How do I stop that? Why is it
happening?
