Hmm, my 8139C tells me 00:40:4f:something. The first 3 bytes should be
reserved per manufacturer/vendor, so make sure it's really a realtek.

And no IP address here. What about "ifup eth0" and "ifconfig eth0" and
"route"? I guess your router does DHCP, so your linux box should get its
address and gateway and probably even DNS entries just like the windows
boxen?
Again I have to assume something .... that your router also does NAT, or
your NIC is registered with your cable modem provider to receive a
unique IP.
