why I always see <feff> after ftp

Hi, Gurus:

I edited html doc on Windows and then upload to my linux server using
ftp, the ftp server application is vsftpd, after that, if I use vi -b
to open the html file, I always see <feff> at the beginning of the
file, anyway for me to prevent this? thanks in advance.

<feff> is the BOM (byte-order marker). Your windows editor is adding
that. For more details on BOM, check out:
