Fed up with restarting my Belkin router and having numerous connection
problems so thought I would buy a new router. What are your thoughts? Only
using for simple surfing and emailing.

I have a Buffalo wireless router that's performed faultlessly for over
a year now - and it's on 24/7.
Perhaps not the most intuitive control panel I've seen, nor the most
helpful manual, but it shouldn't be a problem for most people.

The high power PCMCIA wireless cards are excellent too - and if you're
able to make use of the AOSS function, security is easy to set up.

Regards,

Frind had a belkin wireless. It just died.

He's go a netgear now.. Seems OK except no SNMP facility.

Just to add my agreement to this recommendation.

I got a brand new one from EBay (£9.99 inc postage, sorry Peter :-) )
and it's great. My old routers (3 of them) would only sync reliably at
around 4500 to 5500, and even then would often still re sync every few
days. The 2700 syncs at around 6500 to 6900 and, in the three months or
so I've had it, has never dropped out.

So what's the best WIRED router, with NAT and SNMP?

Netgear DG834G is always fairly stable, but be sure to use WPA2 encryption,
MAC
filtering and change the default password to access the configuration pages.
I also used a Thomson 780 which was more stable with peer2peer stuff and
would
connect at a slightly higher speed. I've also tried a DLINK G604T and that
had the
highest power output of any i have used, but they whistle from time to time.
Like a high
pitched whistle once the ADSL has synchronised. I later put the G624T
firmware in
which isn't that good. Belkin routers were never much good, not even the
latest ones.
So out of all I have tried I would go for a Netgear DG834 type. You can get
them
for next to nothing on ebay from SKY users who want to sell them off. They
can be
unlocked, unbranded and have standard Netgear firmware installed.
I never have to touch the Netgear, it has been on for about 12months and
never required
reseting, it just works!
