Just bought a new laptop, and installed netstumbler and ethereal.

Problem is though that neither of those apps recognise or support the built
in Wifi adapter

Can anyone suggest a wifi devicem be it PCMCIA or USB that is compatible
with the above apps

Why PCMCIA or USB? I'd replace the built in (probably mini-PCI)
wireless adapter (which I did as my original Toshiba WiFi card was
crap).

What laptop\card have you got atm?

It's an ACER Aspire 5050

Cheap and cheerful but does the job .. apart from the wifi bit

As the main purpose of both of those is hacking, does it matter?

This is true .... but they are also very useful tools to monitor your own
network, and check for signal strength etc
