Which kids filtering software?

Is 'Net Nanny' the favourite? What do you guys recommend for
filtering/blocking of sites & dubious chatrooms etc.

Net Nanny is Ok, it really does slow your connection down though.

Do you have a router?

Also you could also use the HOSTS file.

Nothing is perfect, though Net Nanny has a good reputation. You could use
something like VNC (free) to remotely monitor what the kids are doing, or
simply put their PC in a shared area (living room ?) so you can see what
they are doing.
