Sorry if this is off topic. My dad's running a 98SE system, and I put
Zone Alarm on for him. They've stopped developing ZA for 98 now, and
it's stopped working anyhow so needs a re-install.

I'm looking for a personal recommendation for a free software firewall
to replace it with.

Tia, Alex.

I'd still use ZA ..(I think there is a copy that still works with 98SE
in their archives).

All the best ..

If not, there will be on http://www.oldversion.com - or i'll have an
old version kicking about somewhere I think, so feel free to email me
if you're stuck (put "newsgroup" in the subject line to evade my spam
filters)

If so: ;-)

FWIW I think it was the 6.1 branch which was the last for 98 (or was
it 6.0 ..)?

I'd just download a few and try to install them working backwards from
the latest (but not 7 or 6.5 probably) then set 'Check for product
updates' to 'Manual' in Overview > Preferences.

All the best ..

I use the Sunbelt Personal Firewall, which was the Kerion Firewall, but this
is with Win XP
You get 30 days with full facilities, then it reverts to basic mode (unless
you pay) which is adequate for home users

I much preferred the early interface tbh (pre 2.x) - apart from a crap
interface, none of the updates added anything above 1.6x !
