I want to run linux to provide primary dns service for several hundred
domain names (currently using M$ server 2000). DNS would be the only
service running on the box, which would be on my site but maintained
with VNC running on a windoze box down the hall.

Not expecting much traffic, only zone transfers to slave dns servers
that will actually service the traffic.

What flavor of linux would you recommend for this. Host computer will
be at least a 600 meg with 256 mb ram.

Most of my remote work is done using ssh! I only use VNC for dealing
with Windows. I have done a little bit of Linux management in Webmin,
but I always go back to the CLI and "mc".

The way I see it, you should use what you're comfortable with. Any will
work with that kind of CPU and that much RAM. If you don't KNOW yet,
such as if you're just now beginning in Linux, having no prior Unix
experience, I suggest you look over some of the many portal sites for
beginners, where the distro choice issue is regularly covered.
