Which cable I have to use between Router and PC(straight or cross
over)?. How can I findout which type of cable needed?.

1) Router to PC directly
2) Router to switch
3) Switch to PC

Is it possible to communicate two PC's directly connecting ethernets
(Linux PC)?. Also If I connect two PC's directly over serial port
(RS-232), can I communicate?. Thanks.

Straight cables will work in all of those cases with 10/100 ethernet.
Nearly all routers and switches auto-sense the cable wiring though, so
either type should work.

The first case is less likely to work although it may do so, mii-tool
for configuring ethernet cards might help here. The second should be
possible although you will need to do some extra configuration to get
the connection working, it may need a kernel rebuild to include the
correct facilities.

Agree.

Yes use a crossover cable, but don't get it mixed up with the others!
Should work straight off.

Yes use a serial cross over cable (sometimes called a null modem), but you
are going to have to mess about.
