There are 2 PCs on the home network. One has a SMC wireless network
card. The other directly connects a SMC DSL wireless router that
connects to a DSL modem. The setup has been done successfully 4 times.
The Internet connection was OK after each time setup but it only
lasted between 3 days to 3 weeks, and then it stopped working. The
setup has to be performed again. Does anybody have any idea? Thanks.

Try to disable uPNP feature in your wireless router

Can you describe your settings in greater detail?

What mode is the WAP in?
Do you have any encryption or MAC filtering enabled?
Is SSID broadcast enabled or disabled?

What is the Client OS?
What client software are you using?
How is the client setup?

Try NetStumbler to measure signal strength.
