What's a repeater?

A repeater listens to an access point or a client and repeats what they say.
Typically used to extent the range of and access point.

It's a box that receives packets from one machine, and forwards them
to another. Also known as store-and-forward repeater. There's a
defacto standard called WDS (Wireless Distribution Something) that
lets access points and wireless routers play store and forward
repeater. Mesh networks also use store and forward repeaters to move
packets toward a wired internet connection.
