Does anyone know how to identify and even specify which ip address a machine
with multiple ip addresses uses to connect to another server? I have a
machine here with about 10 ips on and whenever I add or remove some of then
the ip address seems to change that it uses to connect to another machine. I
would have thought that the ip address that appeared in the initial tcp/ip
properties window would have been it but it's not.

Thanks,

Liam.

Go to the properties of the NIC in Network Places. Select TCP/IP and pick
Properties,....you're looking at the primary IP#.

To see all the others you have to go into the Advanced section.

Thats exactly what I did and it isn't the case. The machine was
communicating with another ip address that was in the advanced list. Maybe
it needs a reboot after changing ip's?

Liam.

Are these IP addresses on the same subnet or different subnets. What subnet
is the destination PC on in relationship to the PC originating the request?

Maybe you have multiple entries in WINS and/or DNS!
