I'm aware of
/etc/host.conf
/etc/hosts
/etc/hosts.allow
/etc/hosts.deny

But WTH is /etc/hosts.conf? Note the additional s.

Looks like host.conf. Result of a script typo?

Or a bio unit glitch between the chair and the keyboard.

There is no such file on my Mandriva, FC5, Ubuntu Linux installs.

Already thought of that, I just wanted to make sure, before I
sent it to /dev/null.
