Hi everyone!

Since i'm trying to get my Netgear WG511T PC-Card to work under Debian
(Kernel 2.6.2) for days now, i'm willing to give up and buy a new
card.

I've already read some posts, figured out i should use the madwifi
drivers (also described in c't 24/2003) for this card, but it simply
doesn't work at all.

So, here's what i tried:
1. Download the newest madwifi drivers
2. Install them (i.e. do a make)
3. Load the modules (for the 2.6 kernel this would be:
insmod wlan/wlan.ko
insmod ath_hal/ath_hal.ko
insmod drivers/ath_pci.ko)

So far everything seems to work!

Then:

4. Configure the card via the wireless-tools (i.e. "iwconfig ath0 mode
managed essid <my SID> enc <my wep-key>)

So far, no error message.

5. Do a "ifconfig ath0 <intranet ip> up"

If you don't know the WG511T card, here some 'explanations':
As soon as the OS recognises your card, two LEDs are blinking
alternatively, as soon as you get a working connection, two LEDs are
blinking at the same time.

The card is obviously recognised by Linux, since the LEDs are blinking
(alternatively).

With 'iwconfig ... managed' nothing happens (i.e. LEDs are blinking
alternatively)
Using 'master' instead of 'managed' at least helps to get both LEDs to
blink at the same time --> i guess some kind of ad-hoc mode seems to
work.

So:
Am i missing something?

A "iwlist ath0 scan" always returns a "ath0 ... No scan results",
while ifconfig lists the card perfectly!

Not that this would be too important, but i'd appreciate if i could
scan for available access-points.

To get to the point:
I wouldn't have a problem if i simply bought the wrong PC-Card (and
therefor would have to buy a new one)

If that's the case, any recommendations are more than welcome! What
card should i buy instead, what driver works (11b is more than
enough!)

On the other side, if anyone got this card to work under kernel 2.6,
what did i do wrong?

A little more specification of my system:
I'm using a DELL Latitude 400 Notebook which has a "Texas Instruments
PCI1410 PC card Cardbus Controller", having "CONFIG_NET_WIRELESS=y"
and "CONFIG_NET_RADIO=y" (and of course "CONFIG_CARDBUS=y")

ANY help is more than appreciated! Thanx in advance

Wolf

I have heared rumor that WG511 uses Prism 2 chipset. But you should
verify this on the internet!
