WExplorer bogs down browsing server folders

Our company has a small network, we have one laptop with
ME that bogs down everytime you browse folders on the
server. You can go about 3-4 tiers before it totally
freezes windows explorer. I upgraded OS to XP and
everything ran fine. We have some software that is only
compatible with 98 or ME, so I reinstalled ME and the same
problem still exists. The company we hire to maintain our
system has no idea why. Any Ideas out there? Thanks.
