WET54g Wireless Bridge Firmware Crash

Howdy Networking Fans,

I'm looking for a little information from you gurus out there.

Yesterday evening while attempting to upgrade the firmware on my Linksys
WET54g with a direct connection to the back over ethernet, it crashed at 0%
saying that there were no routes.

Well, as it would be, it now simply just blinks and responds to pings.
I've read of people being able to restore their Linksys equipment before by
holding the reset button for a minute and then unplugging it for a little
while and then plugging it back in and it's as good as new. Apparently
this is not the case for me. So I was wondering if anyone had any
suggestions.

It does ping, however the web interface is not working :-\

Thanks,
gg

Well, here's the response that I received from them...

Hold the reset for a minute with the bridge powered
Unplug the bridge and let it sit for a few minutes
Plug the switch back in directly to a PC so that you have it set to
crossover mode so that it talks to Ethernet (the light comes on).
Attempt to ping bridge
If pingable, attempt to flash it.

For me it didn't work. I'm getting an RMA and sending it in to have them
switch the chip or flash the thing...

Hopefully it will work then.

Well i tried that and it didn't work.

I managed to get the bin file out of the exe and TFTP(ing), it didn't
work.
I sniffed the TFTP protocol and i got access vialotion error when
tyring to PUT and file not found when trying to GET.
My RMA status is a bit tricky since i live in Israel and i got the
dramm box in the US.
To begin with I was not happy with the bridge, it is connected to my
XBOX and i got really bad and slow network access and i hoped that the
2.05 firmware will fix all sorts of issues.
I should have waited to the new Microsoft XBOX bridge...

Same for me here! Can't revive it!! TFTP is not working...

I was using SMC products before... Never had any problems!! Switched
to Linksys to upgrade to 54g... Now I always get a headhake every time
I modify something in the wireless settings... Things usually stop
working and I have to reset everything to factory defaults and
reconfigure everything in order to make my devices work again!

It's now the second time that I get a bad firmware upgrade with my
linksys products. Once with my WET11 (I was able to revive it with
TFTP) and now with my WET54G (which now seems to be dead!).

I'm thinking of getting rid of my WRT54G and my WET54G and going back
to SMC...

Just out of curiousity, you mention that you were able to get the bin
file out of the executeable. I'm curious how you did that since the
updater is a single installer executeable and not like the other flashers
where the tftp server is seperate from the bin file...

Thanks for your help...

Who nice thread we started here... I hope that someone at Linksys is
reading this.
And if they are then I want to let them know that 5 people of our
company bought D-Links only because I told them how bad Linksys
support is.

Now, Gary it seem that the exe file that Linksys supplied is a self
extract exe. Use WinZip or WinRAR (I used WinRAR) and you will get
three files one of them is the bin file.

Now I will continue to rant about Linksys support,
1. 25 minutes I spent on the line (international call mind you) before
I got a live agent.
2. I got a agent that didn't know what the WET54g is and it seem that
he try to help me as if I have the WRT54g.
3. I don't understand how I cannot fallback to the old firmware.
4. The old firmware is nowhere to be found on the Linksys FTP.

Shay -- I didn't realize that it was since it just ran without me asking if
it could unpack its things...

Thanks for the info.

Alas, after talking to tech support, they confirmed that it was officially
dead and I've got my RMA and I'm sending it back.

I could have told you that

The amazing part is that they didn't remove the buggy firmware crasher
from their site yet.
