WET54G bridge firmware

Short version: Does anyone know if an update for the WET54G V1.1
harware model will have firmware forthcoming to support WAP from Linksys?

Long winded version: I recently took the plunge into wireless
networking in my home. So far, I'm pleased with the setup: A Linksys
WRT54G router with my wife's PC & Cable Modem directly connected to
that, and my other computers in my office room all wired up to a switch
connected to a Linksys WET%$G bridge.

After setting up WEP 128-bit mode for security, I did some reading and
realized that WEP just doesn't cut it for decent security. Bacially it
is better than nothing...but easily crackable. So, I switched the
router to the new WAP security protocol, and discovered the bridge
firmware doesn't support it! And here are two products that are of the
same generation/life-cycle!

After looking into the WET54G firmware upgrades, Linksys apparently made
a 1.1 version of the hardware (which I have), and a V2 harware WET54G
that has firmware upgrades that supports WAP security.

I've wrote Linksys a few days ago asking if the V1.1 hardware will be
getting a WAP firmware update. So far, they have not responded.

I was thinking of trying to flash my WET54G 1.1 bridge with the V2
firmware containing the WAP update. There is actually very little in
the way of documentation on the Linksys site regarding the fail-safe
features of the firmware upgrade tool (ie. does it check for the correct
hardware version) and is there any way to back off an upgrade if it
doesn't work. Just wondering if anyone has tried this, because I don't
want to experiment unless someone has a known outcome ;-)

Have you heard anything back from Linksys? From what I understand, the two
hardware versions are very different, and the firmwares are not
compatible... So you risk killing your Rev1 if you try to put a Rev2
firmware onto it...

I advised a neighbour to get a Wet54G so that he could share my connexion -
but the wet54g holds a strong signal (i.e. all bars light up) and then
loses it. Wonder if the h/w is actually faulty?
