For about a month I have been sharing a DSL line with a friend of
mine. He is connected directly to the DSL modem via a router (BEFSR41)
and I am connecting to a WAP11 AP with a 12 dB omni using a WET11 with
a 14.5 radome Yagi at my house. Distance 1 km.
Link speed has varied between 2 and mostly 5.5, sometimes 11 Mbps.
The only trouble I have had since I gor up and running is that
sometimes the WET11 has locked up, with neither LAN or WLAN led lit.
Power-cycling the unit has solved this.
One week ago another neighbour joined the network with identical
equipment as me. Same distance. His connection has worked flawlessly
all the time.
Yesterday I discovered that the WLAN led was black, LAN led still lit.
Power-cycling was no use, so I drove over and power-cycled the WAP11
AP as well. No use. Saw from the router logs that the other wireless
user was connected all the time, as confirmed by him.
Tried a factory reset of the WET11 and ran the config CD setting it up
again, same shit.
Borrowed my neighbour's WET11 - blam! - immediate connection.
So my conclusion is that my WET11 is somewhat broken, but what can be
wrong?
What shall I do? Is it possible to repair it?
Unfortunately I have opened it, planning to add a MMCX pigtail
directly to the radio card, but discovered that the v.2 contains an
Agere onboard chip instead.
Is warranty definetly void then?
Shall I simply throw the thing in the litter bin and order a new?
In my opinion the WET11 is a nifty little thing - when it works!
Any other manufaturers that makes equal units?
