I need a little help configuring my router. I'm very confused as to how I
got to this point so here we go.
I just got DSL about 1 month ago. Started with Westell 2200 modem, and
after troubleshooting a very slow connection, Verizon recommended modem
replacement, and sent another 2200. That one didn't work any better (56k
speedtest), so Verizon sent out a tech to troubleshoot. He modified wiring
outside and fixed something that got me up to 490k. He said that I should
be able to get 1500k, and I had mentioned wanting a wireless network, so
Verizon then replaced the modem with a Westell Versalink 327W. That one
didn't work at all, so they sent another. That one worked, and I'm using it
now.
Anyway, each new modem required reinstalling the software from the "Replace
Modem" point. To start with, down in the bottom right, my network icon
would only appear to notify me that the network was "unplugged" or something
whenever I unplugged it or powered the modem off.
Once I got this modem, and the connection started working at an acceptable
rate of 740k, I tried to log in to the router to configure it at
http://192.168.1.1 per the instruction card and online instructions from
Verizon. Apparently it was not reset from the former owner, because it kept
asking me for a user name and password, and no matter what I entered, it
would give me an "authorization denied" screen after 3 tries. I then found
and used the reset button on the gateway. Now I cannot get to the router at
all.
http://192.168.1.1 doesn't work, nor does
http://dslrouter. The next
time I rebooted I got this Verizon Broadband PPPOE connection, and that
little icon at the bottom right indicates "acquiring IP address" at all
times. There is a second icon for the Verizon Broadband PPPOE connection
that actually shows up as well and that connection works.
I need help configuring my gateway.....and any advice regarding eliminating
the PPPOE and allowing the normal LAN connection to work so I don't have
that anoying icon down there all the time would be appreciated....
