I'm setting up a wireless network, is it best to add a 128Bit WEP Security
to the network or not?

Not. Set up WPA-PSK instead.

I think there are various views on whether or not to use encrytion and which
type to use as some are more hackable. There are different views as to
whether to broadcast your SSID.

If you are having compatibility issues, then switch off encryption.

I simply ensure that only known MAC addresses can connect to the wireless
network.

Either you want to share your network or you want to use WPA.

Oops, sorry, meant to say

Either you want to share your network with neighbours and passers by
or you want to use WPA.

Why would using WEP allow neighbours in?

Because it can be cracked very quickly, and very easily. ;o)

Thats OK then.

Would you walk around town with no cloths on, except a placard on your
back telling every one your address & that the door is unlocked?

If so NO don't bother, if you wouldn't then you should, it's entirely
up to you & in comparative terms the comparison equates to the same
thing...
