Help required Urgent.

I have a small business going to my customers businesses checking how secure
their wifi network is. I use a laptop with Linux on it running airsnort.
Works great customers are happy I have identified a problem sold them some
kit. Made some money bobs your uncle. !!

Here is the problem.

Just got the laptop out to charge it up ready for the morning , NOTHING, the
thing is dead.

I have a spare laptop but it has XP on it, My Linux Disks are 250 miles away
!!

Is there any software I can buy that will snoop WEP keys on windows to get
me over this problem

Any help greatly required

Thanks

Simon

Remove hard drives, and swap.

Does that mean you'll pay?

Professional door rattler. I used to do that years ago for my larger
corporate clients. My favorite stunt was to use the security camera
to video tape the sysadmin logging into the server. I would then
playback the video and watch his keystrokes. Instant password. I
wasn't very good at "finger hacking" but my neighbors 13 year old brat
was amazing.

Unplug the laptop, and unplug the battery. Leave it that way for at
least 3-5 minutes. Plug it back together. It will work. What
happened is that your Li-Ion battery protection circuit detected a
power glitch that somehow made its way through the charger and shut
down the battery pack. It happens all the time, especially with
Compaq laptops.

You could go into a store and buy a copy of your favorite Linux
mutation. Fedex overnight? Remote install from boot floppies?

I found anything useful for Windoze. Someone ported Airsnort to
Windoze, but I could never get it to work right. It would spew
garbage or hang as soon as the capture file got larger than about
10MBytes.
http://airsnort.shmoo.com/windows.html
but it might be worth a try.

You might also try running Cygwin-X which is a Unix environment for
Windoze with an X-Server.
http://www.cygwin.com
http://x.cygwin.com
Instructions for getting Airsnort to work on Cygwin:
http://www.davewilson.cc/Wireless/Airsnort.html

I use the character based Cygwin on all my Windoze boxes (can you tell
I'm a Unix/Linux bigot?) but have never bothered trying the X-Server.
This config tool and security front end was recommended:
http://www.hostalive.net/cxlaunch.html

Is there any way you can download 500MB and burn a cdrom? See:
http://moser-informatik.ch/?page=products&lang=eng
which includes all these tools:
http://moser-informatik.ch/tools.html
That would preserve your Windoze XP filesystem. For logging, I use
SSLWRAP to build a tunnel to my office server and dump the capture
files there. No sense in carrying the evidence around.

Instead of paying me to save your ass, could I trouble you to report
back if any of this stuff actually worked? I don't have the time or
inspiration.

I have a Compaq laptop running Windows XP. I also have a Linux CD that
total runs off the self booting CD . So if you can find this CD it would
solve your problem.

I doubt that. The OP wants to run airsnort, I am sure airsnort has
some files that it will need to save from it's scan.

What he asked for and what I asked for is an airsnort type wep key
monitor/calculator for win32.

Does anyone know of anything that does that for win32? Not linux. Not
a hack or a workaround, but a windows application that can monitor
packets in promiscuous mode and calculate the wep key in use when
enough packets have been observed?

How can this be so hard for win32 that it can't be done (or hasn't
been done) where there are several for linux? That seems odd.

Just be aware that, to make it work, you have to grab a demo version of the
AiroPeek commercial driver. 'Sup to you. As far as I know, there are no
Windoze freeware drivers for many major wifi chipsets. You need something
that supports promiscuous ("monitor") mode.

I tried that. Thanks.
Trouble with getting the card in monitor mode.
"can't set monitor mode". The card I have is specifically supported.

Weird.
Not much help from the forums over there.
