Well done PlusNet - Goodbye bandwidth hogs

I must say I did smile when I saw this on the Register. I am glad an ISP
is dealing with BW hogs in what can only be described as a fair move.
They haven't broken their promise of unlimited downloads but are dealing
with "abusers" of the service. Sure all those hogs will cry foul but let
them get a taste of their own medicine. I'd also challenge the
legitimate use for using that amount of bandwidth, after all what
possibly can people be d/l'ing if they are using gigs and gigs of data a
day?

then i'd say it'll be goodbye plusnet and hello to an alternative
provider.

i remember the days of force9 56k internet and have steered clear of
this company ever since.

can stream radio 24/7 = 2.4 GB/day at high quality

They are just getting what they are supposedly paying for and Plusnet
are just being grabbing bastards . I don't have an axe to grind has we
are just the opposite and do not use it enough in my opinion apart
from the fact that all this smells of the good old days when 0800
access first came into being . Pay us X number of pounds and you can
stay connected for ever and day they all said and within months they
all started shedding crocodile tears and saying we where all staying
connected for far to long . Some of the bastards closed their
operations down some closed accounts and some just capped usage
the same was said by ISP's when ADSL first appeared download what you
want stay connected for ever and a day etc etc now listen to them !!.
FUCK the ADSL ISP's I will stick with blueyonder who instead of
moaning and groaning are giving more and more from next month for THE
SAME MONEY .

Absolutely. Well done Plusnet, and done in a way that hasn't altered any
original terms and conditions.

But of course, the "one user told us" part is complete bullshit, as i
haven't seen any "flood of complaints", just a few pissed off users who
can't download gigs and gigs of illegal music and movies anymore.

"I can only really expect terrible speeds" said one ... so, deal with
it, go buy the movie, or the music - whiner.

And to those who say it's radio streaming et al - please do try and keep
up with reality! No-one max's out a connection 24/7 listening to radio,
certainly not at the levels Plusnet are experiencing.

Seriously though, are you actually having any problems with PlusNet and
do you have any credible reason to believe they will be addressed by
this action?

There's been a lot of hot-air on the PN forums about high-bandwidth
users hogging the network and other users "subsidising" them, so it will
be interesting to see how they all react when the evil-doers are
suitably segregated and they find the service is (as I suspect it will
be) exactly the same, both in terms of performance and cost.

But, hey, I suppose every community needs a good lynching, once in a
while.

I agree there has to be a limit somewhere, I don't think I come anywhere
near plusnet's cutoff point, but to give you an example, on several
occasions I've downloaded >4GB of a torrent for a linux ISO
distribution, and then uploaded at least the same volume as over the
following few days allowing it to seed back to other downloaders, I
regard this as legitimate use once in a while ... but not 24x7x365
