Be very wary of purchasing new from shops because you'll end up with
the newer product which does not have the aerial socket and doesn't
look like the ORiNOCO Classic Gold PC Card.
The latest (new) Proxim Orinico Cards available from stores do not
have the antenna socket you refer to, I found out the hard way.
You may have to try and buy second hand.
ORiNOCO Classic Gold PC Card is the card you want, but you may also
like to know the Cisco AiroNet LCM352 has no antenna, but has Dual
MMCX connectors for you to connect your pigtal and external antenna.
Cisco AiroNet LCM352 is a higher power card 50mWatts, rather than the
Orinioco Gold card which is only 30mWatts, but Cisco card will not
work with Netstumbler, but Cisco is more sensitive.
ORiNOCO Classic Gold PC Card has been rebadged as follows:-
WaveLAN
ORiNOCO
Lucent
Dell Truemobile
Avaya Silver World Card part# 016064/B
Compaq WL110
the main thing to look for in all the variants is the shape of the
antenna end...the characteristic squared off thick rectangle and
antenna port on the end are a dead giveaway. the proxim variants'
antennae look different. if the antenna looks like an orinoco, it IS
an orinoco regardless of what sticker you see on it.
It depends want you want to do, Netstumbler above cards, otherwise go
for a Cisco.
