I know this is a quite old question already, but this time things became
weird to me.

I have a notbook(a old IBM iSeries type) with a realtek rtl8139 PCMCIA
network card. RH9 was installed and the network card just can not be
initiated during bootup. But when the system was up, by pull out the card
and plug it again in the PCMCIA socket, the cardmgr recognize it and mostly
load the right module (8139too) for it. Some times it load a wrong module
(8139cp) and then I have to do the same thing again to try my luck.

my question is why RH9 can not initiated the card during boo up? and how to
config my system so that I do not need to pull and plug the network card
again and again?

any suggestion is highly appreciated, I am almost mad with this weird card.

Thanks!

Sun

Most of the time is because when the network is started the pcmcia
subsystem isn't. So is 'delayed' until both get initiated. Another reason
could be that your configuration is screwed.

Well, dive into how the card is initialized by the system, evidently
it uses some information to load the _wrong_ module, find out where that
module is loaded and put the _right_ module in there. Also, check when
the pcmcia is initialized if there is something wrong with it.

hi,

thanks Davide. I solved it in an alternative way. For details you can
check linux.setup group.

I still do not really understand why I have to use cardctl to
initialize the NIC, but at least it
works at this moment.

Thanks for your help.
